« Marielou Jacquard embodies Costanza with a supple voice that highlights the character’s profound sensitivity. Her musicality and extremely well-done piani allow her to express Costanza’s deep suffering. »

Online Musik Magazin - Costanza/Riccardo Primo, HÄNDEL

BIOGRAPHY

Playing the acrobat between baroque music and contemporary creation, Marielou Jacquard cultivates her taste for eclecticism in the diversity of her repertoire.

She began her training as a singer at an early age at the Maîtrise de Radio France, then at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin where she studied with Martin Bruns and Christine Schäfer. She also studied with soprano Julia Varady, Wolfram Rieger for Lied and Peter Berne for Bel Canto.

Marielou discovered her passion for the stage as a teenager, performing the role of Flora in The Turn of the Screw by B. Britten at the Dijon Opera in 2002-2003. Then she played the Angel, alongside Claire Lefilliâtre and Lisandro Abadie in Ursule1.1 by Morgan Jourdain, stage directed by Benjamin Lazare and conducted by Geoffroy Jourdain at the Quimper theater.

In 2014, noticed for her musicality and vocal agility by conductor Wolfgang Katschner, she performed the role of Costanza in Händel's Riccardo Primo at the Händelfestpiele Halle and the Ludwigsburger Festspiele, in a production by the Lautten Compagney. It was the beginning of an affinity with baroque music that grew stronger over the years. She embodies the role of Nerona in Monteverdi's Incoronazione di Poppea with René Jacobs during a residency in Royaumont.

She recently played the role of Juno in Actéon by Charpentier in a production of Les Cris de Paris of Geoffroy Jourdain, directed by Benjamin Lazare. She regularly collaborates with the Poème Harmonique of Vincent Dumestre (Coronis by S. Duron at the Opéra Comique, Egisto by Cavalli at the Opéra Royal in Versailles, Nisi Dominus at the Sinfonia Perigord festival, Lamentations by Cavalieri), with the Ensemble Correspondances of Sébastien Daucé, as well as Raphaël Pichon's Pygmalion orchestra for 17th century Italian music (L'incoronazione di Poppea by Monteverdi at the Opéra National du Rhin), but also for romantic French repertoire (Lakmé by Delibes at the Comical opera).

Marielou is also very involved in contemporary creation. She is invited to perform at the Tischlerei of the Deutsche Oper Berlin as well as at the Werkstatt of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden for two world premieres - My corporate Identity by Thierry Tidrow and Abstract Pieces by Manos Tsangaris. She performed the eponymous role in the Lady MacBeth creation by free jazz guitarist and composer Marc Ducret at the Lille Opera. She is the dedicatee of several plays, notably Le Coeur Crucifié by Héloïse Werner, Les Chansons pour Pauline by Lise Borel, Ceux qui nous attendaient by Kaoli Ono..

In the past few years, she had the opportunity to perform at the Academy of the Aix en Provence Festival, at the Chapelle Royale in Versailles, at the Ambronay festival as well as at the Musica Sacra Festival (Quito, Ecuador). In Berlin we could hear her at the Tacheles, the Radial System and the Konzerthaus.

In previous seasons, she also played the young Cherubino in Mozart's Nozze di Figaro during a French tour of Opéra Eclaté compagny, the 3rd chambermaid in Zemlinsky's Le Nain at the Lille, Rennes and Caen opera houses, Myrtale in Thaïs by Massenet at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. She is the dragonfly and the owl in Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges with the ONB (Bordeaux) at the Ensemble Pygmalion's Pulsation Festival.

Her  « very resonant voice, with a solid anchor, and the prosody of storyteller, souple and well articulated » (Olyrix, Charles Arden) leads her naturally to the art of recital. She participated in the inaugural promotion of the Académie de Lied et Mélodie Orsay-Royaumont and gave numerous recitals, in particular with the pianist Kunal Lahiry at the Musée d'Orsay, at the auditorium of the Petit Palais -Récital Jeunes Talents- and in the framework of the Concertini at the Monnaie in Bruxelles. She also recently gave La Fontaine's Fables set to music by Offenbach with the Orchestre de Picardie, conducted by Arme van Beck.

Marielou has just recorded La Belle Maguelone by Brahms for the B Records label with the baritone Stéphane Degout, the pianist Alain Planes and the narrator Roger Germser, live recording of their concert at the Athénée on March 2023, which closed a tour of recitals, notably at the Radio France Festival in Montpellier and at the Atelier Lyrique in Tourcoing.

She is also involved in highlighting the work of women composers by collaborating on several occasions with the Elles Creative collective (at the initiative of the Boite à Pépites and the Un temps pour Elles festival), as well as with the Femmes artistes, Femmes d'action Festival.

Passionate about acting, she played the roles of Sascha, Ivanov's lover, in Chekhov's play of the same name, then Hitler in Heiner Müller's Germania at the Berlin Academy of Arts.

The 23/24 season will start with the La Belle Maguelone album release concert at the Royaumont Festival. Furthermore, Marielou will take again the role of her "exquisite Despina" (opera forum) in the spicy production of Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte on tour in France with Opera Eclaté, alongside Eléonore Pancrazy, Jean Gabriel Saint Martin, Julie Goussot , Antoine Foulon and so many other young and talented artists. She will play the show "Sans Tambour" by Samuel Achache at the Madrid Autumn Festival and at the Garonne Theater in Toulouse. This season will also include a reprise of Coronis by S. Duron with the Poème Harmonique at the Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo. Finally, she will give many concerts with the Trio Haydée (voice, flute(s) and harp), whose first album is in preparation.

NB: the Actéon recording, directed by Benjamin Lazare and Corentin Leconte, production of Les Cris de Paris, is still available on Arte Concert.

« The singing is fluid, charged with emotion, with languid passages in chest voice on low notes.

The treble is incisive and sparkles. The score also offers her the opportunity to embody two characters, Maguelone and Sulima, daughter of the Sultan of Egypt, which she accomplished brilliantly. »

Forum Opéra - Anne Rouhette

« Regarding Despina, the sparkling Marielou Jacquard embodies with obvious relish, drawing a character full of vice and cunning, with a confident voice and melodious intonations. She also makes you smile cheerfully at the sight of this zany doctor coming, with a top hat and a grotesque ruff around his neck, to cure the two lovers with his Messmer stone hanging at a swinging pendulum. »

Olyrix - Pierre Géraudie

« Let us notice the piquant Despina of Marielou Jacquard in her “Una donna a quindici anni” of great smooth. She solemnly imposes an unapologetic “In uomini, in soldieri”. »
